Los Angeles native and profound playwright, Luis Alfaro, reimagines Sophocles’ classic play Oedipus, in his acclaimed and electrifying Oedipus El Rey, set in the heart of the City of Angels.

Oedipus dreams of rewriting his own story — but liberation comes at a price: can he truly escape the destiny laid out before him? What’s fate, and what’s just the system? A searing tale of love, family, and prophecy, Oedipus El Rey blends ancient myth with modern urgency shared through the Chicano experience.

Project Gente’s Mission
Project Gente Mission is to enrich and inspire local Latinx artist by exposing them in a professional setting with their community to engage in bold and artistic expression. From community college students to professionals, we aim to produce challenging works in pursuit of creating access to industry opportunities and connections. We celebrate the essential powers of theatre and look forward to illuminating our shared humanity.
