It’s that time of year! Well… for theatre technicians it is always that time of year - the time to create a costume or costume accessory. This September, our Teen Tech program dives into making a standout costume/cosplay piece using specialty foam. This program invites ages 12-17 to learn the craft of designing and constructing an original custom accessory (armor, headpiece, jewelry, shoe/boot covers, pauldrons, helmet, mask, crown, etc.)
Teen Tech: Costume Craft is a hands-on 4-session program focused on the creation of a costume accessory from inception to completion. We will be using craft techniques utilized in the professional world of stage, film, and television.
Participants will design, pattern, assemble, and fabricate their own unique accessory using non-traditional materials including EVA foam and thermoplastics.
Participants will learn from Costume Design professionals who will guide the creative process through step-by-step instruction and hands-on demonstration utilizing the tools and materials of the trade.

Prop making is some of the most creative work in technical theatre. This October, our Teen Tech program explores the skill set of making: hand props, light-up props, consumable props, and scenic props.
Teen Tech: Halloween Props is just in time for Halloween. This spooky edition of prop making is hands-on (pun intended), and full of individual creativity. Each of the four sessions will be focused on the techniques used to craft props for use on stage, and in film & television.
Participants will design and build a series of Halloween themed props including: Shakespearean daggers and fake blood, light-up lanterns, scenic pieces found in a murky outdoor setting, and edible props that are safe to consume, but to an audience look frightening - all through tricks of the trade.

Lucille Ball was known for arriving at the studio before anyone to work on her physical comedy bits for her television show “I Love Lucy.” It’s one of the reasons she was a master at her craft. Comedy is all about precision, timing, and clear choices. Understanding comedy in performance is a skill that is vital to the stage and screen performer. And it takes years to be considered a pro. With sessions designed to tickle the funny bone, GMT is enlisting the talents of some very funny professionals to teach the art of making people laugh through gesture, expression, and movement.
Participants will be immersed in physical comedy techniques including: clowning, comedic choreography, mime, slapstick, physical theatre for storytelling, farce, and on-camera comedy performance.
Sessions will included the fundamentals of comedic timing, slapstick humor, and the power of exaggeration. Instruction will guide budding physical comedians through exploration of trips & slips, spit-takes, character walks, prop comedy, making faces, comic skits, bold entrances, costume comedy and sight gags. What can we say… this is going to be FUN!
